P6 and the YES! Project 2025
23rd Oct 2025
Primary 6 pupils had a fantastic experience during their visit to Shantallow Community Centre as part of the Y.E.S. (Youth Educated in Safety) project. The children took part in a series of engaging workshops designed to teach them how to stay safe in a variety of real-life situations within their communities.
The sessions were led by professionals from the emergency services, local authorities, community organisations, youth workers and student volunteers. The contributors included:
- Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service
- Neighbourhood Policing Team (PSNI)
- Foyle Search and Rescue
- Dog Control (DCSDC)
- Bus Safety (Translink)
- Home Accident Prevention (DCSDC)
- Firework Safety
- Anti-Bullying Awareness
- Translink
- Mindfulness
- City and Rural Community Safety Warden Scheme
Each workshop provided valuable insights and practical advice, helping the children build confidence and awareness around personal and community safety.
It was a great educational day for everyone!
