National Coding Week 2025 at Oakgrove IPSN
19th Sep 2025
Well done to everyone at Oakgrove for taking part in National Coding Week 2025!
Throughout the week, each class explored different coding activities. We also celebrated the week with an Assembly.
During the Assembly, we discussed how coding plays a vital role in our everyday lives. It powers the apps we use, helps us shop, enables us to watch videos, play games, and listen to music. Even though we don’t always see it, code is working hard behind the scenes.
- Primary 1 learned to code through practical activities by following and repeating instructions. They also enjoyed using iPad games, including BeeBot.
- Primary 2 explored drag-and-drop coding and directional tasks. They did a fantastic job!
- Primary 3 worked with grids and directions to help Scrat find the acorn in a coding game. They were brilliant.
- Primary 4 used the Angry Birds game to learn about pathways, repeated instructions, and loops. They tested their code by pressing run to see the results.
- Primary 5 showed great creativity programming Micro:bits to perform different tasks.
- Primary 6 created their own Flappy Birds games, designing characters, backgrounds, and adjusting speed and gravity. Some made their games easy, while others added a challenge!
- Primary 7 developed controllable games and animations using repeat functions and sound. Their coding was imaginative and expressive.
A huge thank you to all the support staff, teachers, and pupils for your enthusiasm and effort. You should be incredibly proud of your coding achievements!
Coding will continue throughout the year as part of the UICT curriculum, with more opportunities to create games and animations.
