 Get Active Week

19th October-23rd October

This week we will celebrate ‘Get Active Week’ in Oakgrove.

Taking enough physical activity is crucial for good health and wellbeing, but most of us are not really active enough. Physical activity is especially important for children if they are to grow into healthy adults.

Your child will take part in various fitness activities throughout the week.

It may be a little colder outside but donīt let that put you off taking more physical activity. Dig out your scarf and hat, get walking or cycling and let some blustery weather blow away the cobwebs. Whatever the weather, thereīs plenty of active fun kids can enjoy!

Please encourage your child throughout the week. For more ideas check out our website:

www.getalifegetactive.com

Have fun!

Creativity Week

Jan 11th-15th, 2010.

Why did we have a Creativity Week?

This is our 34th year of the project. It is always held during the second week in January because we like to kickstart the new year with a fresh approach to the curriculum. The usual timetables are suspended and the whole week is centred around art, music, dance, drama and problem solving activities. Our theme this year is water.  Creativity Week is beneficial for a number of reasons, such as

*To promote the whole area of the Creative Arts and demonstrate that creativity lies at the heart of all teaching and learning. This ties in very well with the sections in the Revised Curriculum related to "Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities" and "Being Creative".

*To create opportunities for pupils/parents/teachers to work with external specialists in order to increase knowledge, skills and understanding in the areas of music, art, dance, drama, literature and design/technology.

*To promote inclusion….the area of Creative Arts is a perfect medium for fully involving any children that may have language, emotional, physical, social or academic difficulties.

*To have FUN! To identify and celebrate success and reward the pupils’ creativity.

Just some of the activities we participated in were:

- visits to the local art galleries and museums & Theatre,

- Riverwatch visits

- Echo Echo Dance Group

- Whole School Performances

- Visiting Engineer
