Creativity Week
Why did we have a Creativity Week?
This is our 3rd year of the project. It is always held during the second week in January because we like to kickstart the new year with a fresh approach to the curriculum. The usual timetables are suspended and the whole week is centred around art, music, dance, drama and problem solving activities. Creativity Week is beneficial for a number of reasons, such as
*To promote the whole area of the Creative Arts and demonstrate that creativity lies at the heart of all teaching and learning. This ties in very well with the sections in the Revised Curriculum related to "Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities" and "Being Creative".
*To create opportunities for pupils/parents/teachers to work with external specialists in order to increase knowledge, skills and understanding in the areas of music, art, dance, drama, literature and design/technology.
*To promote inclusion….the area of Creative Arts is a perfect medium for fully involving any children that may have language, emotional, physical, social or academic difficulties.
*To have FUN! To identify and celebrate success and reward the pupils’ creativity.
Just some of the activities we participated in were:
-visits to the local art galleries and museums,
-resident local artist, Anne Quigley working with the pupils,
-The "Happle Puzzle Company" day
-Local school children have been invited over for art workshops,
-Environmental workshops in St.Columb’s Park with Brendan Lyttle,
-Music workshops with Sean Randel.
To view just some of the activities click on the links below.
Be patient. We were so busy, it might take a little moment.
Thank you.
